This article refers to the use of Arc-En-Ciel as the supplier of UK address data, but other suppliers may be available.
You will need the following in order to use it for looking up addresses from postcodes, and performing location radius searches:
The RDB Postcode plugin, freely available to download and install from the RDB Store.
An active Arc-en-Ciel “Address” software subscription; click here to find their contact details..
Postcode searches for auto-filling addresses:
Users must have the Arc-en-Ciel "Address" software fully installed on the same machine as their RDB client program.
Please note that the requirement to have the Arc-en-Ciel Address software installed on the licensed user's machine does not apply to our Virtual Office customers; software access is controlled by the hosting platform.
Actions required to enable users to carry out Centre Location radius searches with up-to-date results:
After an address is added to an Applicant, Contact or Client record, make sure that at least the postcode is valid.
Save and close the address record.
Click Set Location and then click Save.
At this point, there is a new Location in RDB for this record, but it does not yet have grid references that radius searches rely upon.
Every so often, and by the RDB user with the Arc-en-Ciel Address software installed and running on their machine:
Click Options then click Lookups and then click Location.
Click Update Locations without Grid Refs.
📌 Note: The plugin can only successfully update location records with valid postcodes, and those postcodes must be in the database that the Arc-en-Ciel software uses – if this software is out of date or simply doesn’t have a specific postcode in the database, RDB will not be able to find grid references for it.
